Accounting Software

Accounts Software

In the last decade or so, the development of the cloud has resulted in significant changes to accounting software. Gone are the days when the only option was desktop software with a choice of either Sage or QuickBooks. Nowadays most accounts software is cloud based with many different providers fighting for a share of the market.

One of the big benefits of cloud software is that we can access our client’s live system online. This makes it easy for us to carry out reviews and identify and correct any issues. It also makes it easier when we are preparing the year end accounts, with no more sending back-ups of data back and forth. We can now work on the year end with no disruption to the client, who can continue to use the system at the same time.

Cloud systems are generally quite straightforward to use, however you do still need to know what you are doing, or you can end up in a mess. We are therefore always happy to assist and guide clients in using their software correctly and efficiently.

Which software?

We are happy to work with any software our clients use. We don’t try to move them on to different software just for the sake of it. However, if we are asked for recommendations, we would suggest either Xero or FreeAgent.

Although these are both cloud based systems which work in similar ways, in other ways they are very different. FreeAgent is very easy to use but has less features and is limited on reporting, so it’s ideal for clients such as one-man bands who just want a system to produce their quotes and invoices and keep a track of their expenses.

For slightly more complex business, particularly where they require regular financial reporting, we would recommend Xero.
